Healthy Homes Standards

Healthy Homes Standards: what landlords need to know

The Healthy Homes Standards are law, and all private rentals must comply. The Standards set minimum requirements across five areas: heating, insulation, ventilation, moisture and drainage, and draught stopping — aimed at warmer, healthier rental homes for landlords and tenants alike.

Key points: the main living room needs an approved fixed heater that meets minimum heating capacity, and ceiling and underfloor insulation is compulsory — with some older insulation needing a top-up to meet the standard.
